About Ashley

Ashley is a transport development strategist focussing on securing foreign direct investment for Southern Africa, pursuing social entrepreneurship, and Christian spiritual development.

Ashley targets the development of taxi industry-owned energy infrastructure – fuel procurement, storage and acquisition of retail garages – setting banking and financing infrastructure and introduction of smart systems in the form of integrated ticketing solutions. He is interested in the introduction of  banking solutions for the taxi industry, foster financial inclusion and promote the use of innovative fintech products in line with the imperatives of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Ultimately, benefits will accrue to the taxi operators – a group of historically disadvantaged individuals which is often side-lined by the mainstream banking sector as informal, risky, and, therefore, un-bankable in spite of the more than R90 billion circulating in the taxi economy annually. This effort is a key cog in the formalization of the taxi industry and the modernization of the public transport sector in South Africa. In addition to his work in the public transport sector, Ashley is a leading businessman.

Ashley’s personality and work ethic is guided by a blend of principle-based leadership style, pastoral work, and philanthropic commitments, a distillation of his Christian Values and Beliefs; Co-operative Values and Principles, and Pan African Values of the Ubuntu Ideology. He draws his daily support and inspiration from Beverly – his wife and best friend – his children and grandchildren and a growing network of friends and solidarity partners.
